The "Californication" star David Duchovny shed a few tears while reading the new script for his upcoming, highly anticipated revival of mega-popular '90s Fox sci-fi drama, "The X-Files."

"The X-Files" was not only a big hit in the mid-to-late '90s, but when the audience waned off, the show still had a huge cult following. So when Duchovny sat down to read the first script for the new show, tears flowed from his eyes, he told Entertainment Weekly.

"I got the first script this morning," Duchovny told EW in an interview. "I just read it about an hour ago and I started crying reading the first page. It was just so strange to see the names on the page. It had nothing to do with the script itself. It was just like, I'd been talking about this for a long time. We'd been planning it for a long time."

Duchovny had obviously been one of those cult-following people who have always wanted to see more to come of the show. Even in the later years when his appearances on the show were fewer and farther between after being somewhat replaced by Robert Patrick, the actor still came back to save it.

"It took a long time to get all the people in the same place and get the deal with Fox. So let's say two years we've been talking about doing it," Duchovny told EW. "Now it's the fun part. Now we actually get to do it. That was nice and strangely emotional for me, and I'll have to figure out how to use that [in the performance]."

When asked what it was about the script that made him cry, Duchovny clammed up and said he wasn't going to reveal anything. But he did say, "it's fantastic."

Duchovny will reunite with former co-stars Gillian Anderson ("Hannibal") and Mitch Pileggi ("Sons of Anarchy") for the series re-boot, which is scheduled to air on Fox next January. He also revealed that the six episodes will be mixed with some stand-alone cases and others that are interwoven throughout the run.

Den of Geek also reports that William B. Davis, who played the "smoking man" in the series, will be returning to the show's revival run.
