iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus Rumors: Force Touch Will be Built Into iOS 9
When iOS 9 is introduced later this year it will have Force Touch built in. That is according to rumors from 9to5Mac.
Force Touch is the technology that allows the amount of pressure applied to a screen or touchpad to be recognized by the device in order to perform different functions. Force Touch is already built into the Apple Watch and the newest MacBooks. With an iOS 9 update supporting Force Touch, this points to a new iPhone having a screen with Force Touch.
The next iPhone, likely called the iPhone 6S, could be introduced this August, according to well-respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He adds that Foxconn will manufacture 60-70 percent of the new iPhones, PC Pro reports.
Kuo believes that Apple will stick to screen sizes of 4.7 inches for the iPhone 6S and 5.5 inches for the iPhone 6S Plus. He does not expect a 4-inch model, or an iPhone 6C, to be offered.
The iPhone 6S is expected to get a speed boost with Apple's latest A9 processor made for them by Samsung. The next iPhone could also see an increase from 1 GB of RAM to 2 GB.
The camera on the iPhone 6 remained 8 megapixels (MP), the same as the iPhone 5. The next iPhone is expected to be increased to at least 12 MP and be capable of taking pictures that are DSLR-like in quality.
The TouchID has been present since the iPhone 5S. This feature allows users to unlock their phones and use Apple Pay to purchase things. This feature on the next iPhone will be improved with better fingerprint recognition.
Kuo predicts that both models of the iPhone 6S will be made with stronger materials, ending the possibility of the phone being bent when stored in a pocket.
New colors are also expected for the next iPhone. A Rose Gold color similar to the Rose Gold Apple Watch Limited will be offered for the first time.
The expected price on the iPhone 6S is $650, while the larger iPhone 6S Plus will likely cost $750, both without a contract.
