Photo of U.S. Marine Praying With Bride Before Wedding in North Carolina Goes Viral
A sentimental photo of a young couple praying together moments before they said "I do" has gone viral.
In the picture, U.S. Marine Cpl. Caleb Earwood and his bride, Maggie, are seen holding hands around a corner in order to avoid breaking the tradition of seeing each other before meeting at the altar. The 21-year-old groom is wearing his uniform while the 22-year-old bride is wearing a beautiful wedding gown.
Although Caleb appears to be praying aloud with his head bowed, Maggie is seen covering her mouth while fighting back tears.
With the help of their family and wedding photographer Dwayne Schmidt, Caleb was guided to Maggie's cabin, where she was getting ready for their wedding held in Asheville, North Carolina, on Saturday.
"They hid me in a room and he stepped up on the stairwell and he stuck his hand out and I grabbed his hand," Maggie Earwood told ABC News.
"As soon as their hands touched he started getting emotional," Schmidt admitted.
The couple said that they decided to pray together to ask for God's blessing before solidifying their holy matrimony.
"We were about to take our first steps in life together, and we didn't want to take a step without it being in God's will," Caleb told TODAY.com. "I prayed to God for my beautiful and intelligent wife that he blessed me with and the amazing family I was marrying into."
Maggie, who met her husband in high school, said she was "relieved to know the person I was getting ready to marry felt the same way about God."
"We're thankful that our picture is able to bless so many people and touch that many hearts," said Caleb.
Since sharing the photo on Facebook on Saturday, the picture has raked in over 42,000 "likes" by Tuesday, reports The Tri-City Herald.
The new Mr. and Mrs. Earwood are currently on their honeymoon and plan to live in Jacksonville, North Carolina while Caleb is stationed at Camp Lejeune.
