Nuketown is one of the most iconic multi-player maps in the history of gaming.

There are actually quite a few that have become widely popular through the years, but Nuketown has been the most purely entertaining, despite being one of the smallest, according to Game Rant.

This particular map was actually first introduced to gamers in “Call of Duty: Black Ops.” It was only a small map that featured a corresponding simple design, explained Game Rant. However, it became so popular among “Call of Duty” players that it was featured in an encore appearance when “Call of Duty: Black Ops 2” came along.

Apparently, the Nuketown map is not done with its special appearances in various “Call of Duty” versions. An avid “COD” player called out the studio design director of Treyarch, David Vonderhaar, and posted a picture of Nuketown with the caption, “Gone, but not forgotten.”

Surprisingly, Vonderhaar answered back by teasing the fan with a somewhat cryptic message, “Says who.” Vonderhaar did not give any further replies to the throngs of fans that started to question him about his post, but his comment could have been a discreet way of hinting that Nuketown will be featured in the third game installment of the “Call of Duty: Black Ops” franchise.

The much awaited E3 2015 is only several weeks away, and “Black Ops 3” is surely one of the biggest games to be featured then. It is likely that the highly requested Nuketown map will be confirmed during the event.

The “Black Ops” gaming series has become the most popular and most played game in all “Call of Duty” history, as proven by its 100 million registered users, reported Express. With a following as huge as this, it is only fair for Treyarch to ensure that the balance is always right, which means they will have to keep the winning formula.

Part of that winning formula, in addition to a Zombies feature, will be the Nuketown map. It has such a unique symmetrical nature that has made it earn its special spot in “COD” history. Each side has a two-storey house that has a fenced-in backyard and a moving van, added Express.

Activision has always had a knack for recycling “Call of Duty” maps that have developed into common fan favorites. It was just recently announced that the Highrise map from “Modern Warfare 2” is going to be featured in the Supremacy DLC of “Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.” That said, fans have been hopeful that the Nuketown map will also be among those that have been included in “Black Ops 3.”
