Simon Pegg has revealed that William Shatner will not be in the upcoming "Star Trek 3" film.

The actor who is currently writing the script told the Digital Spy that Shatner's appearance would not happen.

"William Shatner is an amazing actor and has such an incredible body of work which transcends his time as Captain Kirk," Pegg said.

"It's always about whether the stories right. It's pointless crowbarring these things in as a gimmick. That does the story and the film a disservice. I have no doubt in my mind that he could play Captain Kirk until the day he goes off to the final frontier."

Pegg has been on the road as of late promoting a number of projects but has also been caught making headlines for the wrong reasons. Last week, Pegg made headlines that noted that Paramount wasn't pleased with the first script because it was "too Star Trek-y."

Pegg later denied the comments and said, "No, I didn't say that. I'm kind of getting tired of having click-bait headlines reduced to things I say to easily objectionable comments. I didn't say that. I didn't mean that. This 'Star Trek' will be as much 'Star Trek' as it can be."

The actor will next appear in "Man Up" with Lake Bell and will also be seen in the upcoming "Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation." He will also be seen in "Absolutely Anything" with Robin Williams and Kate Beckinsale.

"Star Trek 3" will be released on July 8, 2016, and is slated to be directed by Justin Lin. It will see Chris Pine return with Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana. It will also star Anton Yelchin, Sofia Boutella, Karl Urban and Idris Elba. Even though J.J Abrams will not direct the film, the director will be producing and overlooking the process.
