“Spider-Man” is still going through its testing process in order to determine who will be cast as the young Peter Parker. Sony and Marvel had already confirmed earlier this year that they have decided to work together for a “Spider-Man” reboot, and the film has been followed by casting rumors ever since.

According to Screen Rant, film makers need to decide pretty soon since Spider-Man will reportedly make an appearance in “Captain America 3: Civil War,” which has already started on its production stages.

Previous reports have stated that Asa Butterfield from “Ender’s Game” bested other young actors who were part of an actor short list, which was rumored to have held only five names. According to the rumor mill, Butterfield beat Timothee Chalamet from “Interstellar,” Tom Holland from “The Impossible,” Liam James from “The Killing,” and Nat Wolff from “The Fault in Our Stars.”

However, a new update from The Hollywood Reporter has reiterated that Butterfield has not signed any contract tying him to the “Spider-Man” franchise just yet.

According to THR's sources, a new actor short list has surfaced, which now includes, six teenage actors, namely, Matthew Lintz from “Kill the Messenger,” Judah Lewis from “Point Break,” Charlie Plummer from “Boardwalk Empire,” Charlie Rowe from “Red Band Society,” and both Holland and Butterfield.

Butterfield and Holland are both 18 years old, Rowe is aged 19, while the others on the list could be as young as 14 years of age. Age-wise, it is unknown particularly how young film makers want Peter Parker to be.

It must also be noted that both Holland and Butterfield have never left the short list. It is highly likely that they are the front runners for the role. However, THR's source has claimed that Marvel may also opt not to work with any of the boys on the list and would continue to look for that particular young actor who could portray the role of Spider-Man the best.

Rowe could also be a frontrunner, right alongside Butterfield and Holland. He was among the names on the actor short list for Cyclops in “X-Men: Apocalypse” earlier this year, as reported by The Wrap.

These six aspiring actors were all flown to Atlanta, which was where “Captain America 3: Civil War” was filming, THR added. Sadly, it remains unknown what the actors did there as it was a secretly operated screen testing that went on for the entire day.

Amy Pascal, the chairman of Sony and producer of the “Spider-Man” reboot, Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors of “Captain America 3,” as well as Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios were reportedly present during the secret screen-tests.
