Lil Wayne Charges Ref at 'Stop The Violence' Charity Basketball Game, Sets Off Bench-Clearing Brawl [Watch]
Rap star Lil Wayne charged a referee during a "stop the violence" charity basketball game in St. Louis Sunday night, setting off a bench-clearing brawl.
TMZ Sports reports the hip-hop star became incensed over what he perceived as a growing number of blown calls by the ref and simply couldn't take it any longer. The website adds Wayne "charged" the official with his whole crew right behind him, allegedly spitting on man as he got near him.
Wayne was coaching a team of his Young Money crew members against a squad led by event organizer Loose Cannon Slim. According to TMZ, someone from the crowd called police to report an assault was taking place, but no arrest were made after they arrived.
The streak of violence comes on the heels of yet another recent instance of mayhem involving the Cash Money rapper. Just last month, two buses tied to the rapper were shot up in Atlanta after he had performed at a local night club there.
Police have since deemed the incident gang related and have charged Jimmy Carlton Winfrey, the road manager for rising rapper and Lil Wayne arch enemy Young Thug, as the trigger man.
Young Thug and Wayne have been locked in an ongoing feud that largely stems from the Atlanta rapper initially naming his recent album "The Carter 6," a blatant jab at the slow pace in which production has played out for Wayne's much anticipated "The Carter V."
Investigators speculate Winfrey may have opened fire on the tour buses looking to impress fellow gang members and hoping to move up within the Bloods hierarchy by "committing a high profile shooting of a rival rap artist."
Winfrey was formally charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, possession of a firearm by a felon and criminal gang activity.
