"Fear the Walking Dead," the much anticipated spinoff series to AMC’s hit zombie show "The Walking Dead," will launch its first six episodes this August, according to Movie Fone.

And franchise creator Robert Kirkman is making it clear that the prequel-like series, which takes place in Los Angeles, will be a very different kind of creature for fans to contend with.

“From day one, one of the things that was most important to us was that 'Fear the Walking Dead' should stand alone, story-wise, character-wise and taking place in its own corner of the universe," said the 36-year-old comic book writer and producer, Fangoria reports.

Kirkman notes that the exciting new visuals that the anxious audience can expect are due in large part to the talents of Adam Davidson, the fellow who directed the pilot episode of the new series.

“He was able to come up with an interesting and unique vision of Los Angeles as a city, and is bringing a whole different flavor to it,” Kirkman said.

Although fans of "The Walking Dead" will no doubt want to see how the new show stacks up against its predecessor, according to Kirkman, the programs each have their own respective qualities that mark them as independent to one another.

"As far as scale and scope, I think both series will stand on pretty equal footing,” he said. “I’ve never considered the kind of competition both shows will have in terms of action.”

Kirkman does note one potential difference for fans to look out for in the upcoming show. The new show will move at a fast pace, which means that the show will be more "hectic" than "The Walking Dead's" first season.

The new series will star Kim Dickens from “Deadwood” and “Gone Girl,” and Cliff Curtis, who viewers might recall from such films as “Whale Rider” and “Blow.”
