‘Black Angel,’ Short Film Made to Accompany ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,' to be Produced [Watch]
Fans of the second "Star Wars" film "The Empire Strikes Back" may recognize the name "Black Angel" because it was a short film George Lucas had originally commissioned to accompany screenings of "Empire" in theaters back in 1980. However, this only happened in Europe and Australia.
But now, the film is set to be produced into a full feature with an earthy environment (possibly like the "Ewoks" movies) and an authentic feel, according to Variety.
Marketing material also suggested that it is to combine high-action sequences with hot drama, much akin to the "Lord of the Rings" films and "The Hunger Games" movie.
Although production for this film is set for September, it will no doubt ride the coattails of a hot run for the December release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," which has already been immortalized in a trailer that featured Han and Chewbacca in what avid fans called an "emotional moment" for the teaser.
"Black Angel" will be directed by Roger Christian. He will also serve as the screenwriter for the film. Christian has such credits to his name as "Underworld," "Nostradamus" and "Masterminds."
Filming will take place in Hungary, Belgium, Morocco and Scotland. Locations like these give us the notion that the scenery in the film is bound to be flawlessly stunning, a lot like "Lord of the Rings" was.
The film also has a crowdfunding initiative that launched today on the Indiegogo platform. The campaign is titled "Black Angel: The Feature Film," and the target sum for this is £66,000 (over $100,000). Donors for this can expect to snatch a few perks to go along with their donations, which could range from a red carpet invite to an exclusive extra in the Demon King's army.

The film will star Rutger Hauer and John Rhys-Davies. It will be produced by Jozsef Cirko and John Engel. It is also an international co-production involving Belgium, Hungary, Canada and the U.K.
