When the Powerball numbers result came out on January 8, 2014, no one matched which made it increase up to $80 million this Saturday.

MLive reported that there were two ticket holders who got five matching numbers but did not match the Powerball red power number which is 22. The mentioned tickets were bought in outlets in New York and Florida with payoff of $1 million each. The Michigan Lottery stated that there were 8,841 Powerball players who got different matching combination numbers winning around $4 each, being the lowest of prizes.

According to Mercury News, $20 million is the set jackpot for the other multi-state game called the Mega Millions. Daily News added that the odds of getting all five numbers matched along with the Powerball number are only 1 in 175,223,510 as referred to by the official Powerball website. Hence, the total chance of getting the jackpot prize is 1 in 31.85.

Powerball is played in a total of 43 states including the US Virgin Islands and the District of Columbia. The Powerball white numbers that came out on January 8 were: 10-28-39-47-58 while the Powerball red Power number is 22.

Last week, a couple from Massachusetts claimed their share on the previous Powerball jackpot that reached $122 million. Maureen and Stephen Hinckley won a total prize of $61,461,010 but decided to accept the lump sum of $23.9 million right after taxes from the state lottery. Daily Mail UK wrote that the couple has been married for a good number of 38 years and did not mention any plans yet on how they will handle their prize money.

According to Maureen, her winning numbers were made up of mixed family birth dates. The drawing came up a couple of days before her 58th birthday came. On the other hand, the other half of the total prize was won by a couple from Nebraska.
