'Star Wars Episode 7' Rumors, Cast & Spoilers: Ewan McGregor Could Reprise Obi-Wan in Disney's New Anthology Trilogy
As Disney gears up to release the first of many "Star Wars" films rumors have surfaced about a possible Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off.
According to Schmoes Know, a source has leaked information that Disney is in negotiations with Ewan McGregor to reprise the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which he portrayed in the prequel trilogy. Additionally, according to the information, McGregor may be in three anthology films that will further develop the character of Obi-Wan.
According to early rumors, the films would take place in between the prequels and original trilogy, during which time Obi-Wan guards over Luke Skywalker as he grows up. Disney has not confirmed the news but the studio is already gearing up to make a Han Solo and Boba Fett spin-off film. It has also promised a "Star Wars" film every year. Currently the studio has plans to make Episodes VIII and IX. However, after the studio finishes up the trilogy, there have been no plans announced.
McGregor is currently working on the upcoming "Beauty and the Beast," which means Disney has access to the actor and could potentially be negotiating his contract. McGregor's portrayal of Obi-Wan was praised when the prequels came out so it will be interesting to see if the actor agrees to the films after 10 years.
McGregor is best known for his acclaimed work on "The Impossible," "The Ghost Writer," "Trainspotting" and "Big Fish." He has also been seen in "Angels and Demons" and "August: Osage County."
While fans wait for Disney to confirm, they can look forward to the Dec. 18 release of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
The film was directed by J.J. Abrams and is slated to star Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, and Lupita Nyong'o.
