‘Everest’ Trailer, Plot & Cast: Film on True Events Has Star-Studded Cast Climbing Icy Mountain
Universal Pictures has officially released the first trailer of "Everest" and it shows an amazingly star-studded cast braving extreme conditions for the film.
"Everest" stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Robin Wright, Keira Knightley, John Hawkes, Josh Brolin, Emily Watson, Michael Kelly, Jason Clarke, and Sam Worthington. It is produced by Cross Creek Pictures and Working Title in collaboration with Walden Media, with a script that was written by Simon Beaufoy and William Nicholson.
Directed by Baltasar Kormakur, the film chronicles the events featured in the bestselling book, "Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster," written by Jon Krakeur, according to Deadline.
The report also mentioned that the second unit crew of “Everest” was actually present in the vicinity when an avalanche took 13 lives in April. The crew escaped the ordeal unscathed.
Kormakur directed another survival story based film, “The Deep,” in 2012. He then filmed “Everest” in various locations, such as Nepal, Italy, and Iceland for a few months to create a more realistic feel for the film, instead of merely relying on CGI, reported Vanity Fair. Amidst the danger, the production team ensured that safety was their primary concern.
"We set out to make a film as authentic as possible... I wanted to make a big-scale adventure film and a drama with the heart of an indie," Kormakur told The Hollywood Reporter.
As seen in the “Everest” trailer, Gyllenhaal is sporting a massive beard, which nearly concealed his face. The Oscar-nominated actor has gone to great lengths to effectively portray the roles that were given to him. He shed off 30 pounds for “Nightcrawler,” where he plays the role of a young man who stumbles upon an underground freelance crime photojournalism organization in Los Angeles. Then, he had to beef himself up for “Southpaw,” where he portrayed a brawler.
“Everest” will be available both in 3D and IMAX 3D when it hits theaters on September 18.
