Luís Miguel is planning to take a sabbatical during most of 2016, a year in which he hopes to stir away from all "artistic activities," La Opinión reported.

The Mexican singer, one of the most successful artists in Latin American history, made the decision as part of a "series of changes" he deemed necessary following the completing of his "Deja Vu Tour," which took the 45-year-old to 65 cities across the United States, Mexico, Chile, Argentina and Paraguay between September 2014 and April of this year.

An unidentified source within the music industry told Basta that Luís Miguel's sabbatical plans are all but set in stone, La Opinión noted.

"It's a given," the individual noted. "(Luís Miguel) wants to stay away from the stage for a year to think about the direction his career needs to take, and he is convinced that he can only accomplish that if he stirs away from all his artistic activities," the source added.

The insider noted that "El Sol de México" might well use the time off to reassemble the team that surrounds him.

"I believe that he wants to look for new people that will be part of his office," the source detailed.

Luís Miguel's year off will likely only begin toward the end of the year because the "No Sé Tú" star has already signed up for a number of shows and concerts spread over the rest of 2015 -- and even has some commitments lined up in 2016, Basta revealed. In both cases, the singer will keep his promises, the publication noted.

Beyond those live appearances, the Mexican star is also working on the presentation of his new album, which, according to other unnamed sources, might be his final cooperation with Warner Music, the record label that has represented him since 1987.

The details of how and where the San Juan native plans to spend his time off remain a mystery, however, though the Caracas-based website Venezuela al Día already had a recommendation for "Luismi": "Make good use of it, and get rid of your extra pounds," the publication quipped.
