Abby Lee Miller Alleges Lifetime Owes Her Money & 'Altercations' Reason for Her Partial Season 5 Absence [Watch]
"Dance Moms" star Abby Lee Miller sat down with Entertainment Tonight on Thursday inside her new Los Angeles dance studio to dish on behind-the-scenes conflicts that could cause the show to not have a sixth season.
"Lifetime is a little in arrears on their payment plan with me personally, and so I think that will have to be taken care of first before we talk about season six," she told ET.
The demanding dance instructor also revealed that "altercations" caused her absence in the show's second half of Season 5, which has not yet aired. Miller, who was apparently tossed out by producers at a dance competition, decided to stay away for a while.
"So I left and I didn't come back. ... There's about one week that I just wasn't there. And I thought, 'You know what? If they can do it without me, do it without me," she said.
A sixth season of the popular reality TV show is stifled by the fact that Lifetime is "in arrears" when it comes to paying her, according to Miller. Before any talk of another season, Miller wants her payment agreement attended to.
While people may expect the Lifetime series would garner Miller's Pittsburgh-based dance company an endless stream of new students, the dance instructor says it has the opposite effect. The show focuses on the battles between Miller and her students' parents, which doesn't sit well with the kids, according to Miller. She would like to focus on the art of dance and "back off the moms and the swearing and the fighting and all that."
She said that she also lost students due to filming the show.
"Kids left because of the crew, and stepping on their bags and pushing them out of the way and all those things," she said.
Miller is also making headlines for her weight loss. While many have speculated the 49-year-old reality TV star had Lap-Band surgery, dieted or started exercise, Miller told People magazine that wasn't the case. She went from a size 24 to a size 16 due to a hectic schedule, her late mother's cancer battle, getting sick and avoiding food that was less than appetizing.
The second half of Season 5 of "Dance Moms" airs June 9 on Lifetime.
