Not since Season 1 has Jeffrey Dean Morgan ("Extant") appeared on "Supernatural," with the exception of a guest role he played at the beginning and end of Season 2. There, his spirit helped close the gates of hell.

But there has been a lot of chatter lately about Morgan reprising his role as John Winchester one last time in an effort to bring closure to the character. He was the first to portray the role of Sammy and Dean's father before he sacrificed himself to save Dean's life on the first episode of Season 2.

However, there have been other actors who played the role as younger versions when Dean traveled back in time.

It is also not an implausible scenario either, given that the show has seen returning characters of people who have died, according to Comic Book.

It is a supernatural show in nature. Therefore, every time Bobby returned, it had a supernatural theme of some sort attached to it.

So bringing back John Winchester in what could potentially be the last season for the show lends credence to the fact that Sammy and Dean have both, once again, unleashed "Hell on Earth" with the Darkness.

In an interview with Collider, Morgan opened up about his feelings on the topic of returning to the show that he hasn't been on for at least a decade now.

"I absolutely would love to go back. I haven't been on the show for 10 years, and I get asked about it in every interview and every time I leave my house. I went and did a 'Supernatural' convention, which I've always said no to," Morgan told Collider. "I went to Las Vegas and talked to 5,000 crazy-ass fans. The show has been on the air for 10 years now, and I haven't done it for 10 years. They want me back. I do this so that I can make people happy somehow. We do it for our fans, and that's got such a great fan base that, of course, I want to go back. And I would love to have some resolution for that character and his sons."

Morgan also added that the show would need a specific arc though, something that he could really get into.

"But in saying that, I don't want it to be a forced deal. I want it to be natural, and I want it to make sense for the story. I would love for John Winchester to have some way to say goodbye, not only to his sons, but to the fan base who seems to be clamoring for him to come back," Morgan said.

One thing's for sure, Sammy and Dean are about to have their hands full with the impending "Hell on Earth" coming in Season 11.
