NBA Finals Weekend Predictions & Schedule: Golden State Warriors Go for 2-0 Series Lead Over Cleveland Cavaliers
The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers will do battle this weekend in Game 2 of the 2015 NBA Finals
The Warriors won a thrilling overtime Game 1 on Thursday, and are trying to take a 2-0 series lead. The Cavaliers led for much of Game 1 but scored just one basket in all of overtime. Game 2 promises to be an instant classic. Let's preview Game 2 and pick a winner.
Warriors Go For 2-0 Lead
The Warriors have been incredible at home this season under head coach Steve Kerr with just three losses this entire year. The Warriors trailed for much of Game 1, but Stephen Curry rallied his troops for a 108-100 victory. Curry had a team-high 26 points, while Klay Thompson provided three perimeter shots.
One of the biggest differences that propelled a Warriors victory in Game 1 was bench production. The Warriors bench scored 34 points while the Cavaliers bench scored just nine points, all of which came from J.R. Smith.
Andrew Bogut has been playing great defense all season, but he did allow Tristan Thompson to grab six offensive rebounds in Game 1. The Warriors dominated overtime by outscoring the Cavaliers 10-2 in overtime allowing just one uncontested LeBron James basket. The Warriors know as long as they take care of business at home, they will win their first NBA Championship since 1975 as they do have home court advantage in this series.
Cavaliers Look For First Win
A very tough task just got even more difficult. The Cavaliers will be without point guard Kyrie Irving for the remainder of the series because of a knee injury. Head coach David Blatt has been criticized by many fans for playing Irving 44 minutes, but Irving was playing great in the fourth quarter, and LeBron James needed rest. Irving made (at the time) the biggest play of the game when he blocked Curry at the basket, and gave the Cavaliers a chance to win it all in regulation.
James failed to make a three point shot with less than five seconds left, and a last second heave by Iman Shumpert from the corner wouldn't go either. Irving would go on to injure his knee in overtime, after James missed the potential game-winning shot.
The Cavaliers have never won an NBA Finals game in franchise history. They are 0-5 all-time having lost Game 1 to the Warriors, and they got swept by the San Antonio Spurs in 2007.
Schedule, Where to Watch
The Warriors and Cavaliers will play each other on Sunday, June 7 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC. The game will be played at ORACLE Arena in Oakland, California.
Prediction
Things don't look good for the Cavaliers right now, but they're certainly not out of it. They have to play Game 2 on the road, Irving is out, and the Warriors are up. Now is the time for James to show everyone he is the best player on the planet, and he just may have to play all 48 minutes to prove it. Smith and Shumpert have to take more three point shots, and don't be surprised if James guards Curry as the defensive point guard. This series isn't over yet.
Cavaliers win Game 2, 98-90
