Bobbi Kristina Brown never had a chance.

A new book that contends she was addicted to drugs by age 14 and long ago commenced entertaining suicidal thoughts concludes just as much. Written by Ian Halperin, the New York Daily News also reports the tome concludes the only child born to Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was "a wild child who grew up essentially motherless."

In "Whitney & Kristina," Halperin goes on to declare Houston was "too consumed by her own drug demons and sexuality issues to be a proper parent."

The 22-year-old Brown has remained unresponsive and largely in a medically induced coma ever since being found face down in a bath tub in the Georgia home she shared with boyfriend Nick Gordon in late January. She is now being cared for at a long-term rehab facility.

Sources tell Halperin Bobbi Kristina was first committed to a psychiatric hospital for observation before her 15th birthday after trying to stab her mother before slashing at her own wrists. By then, Houston's 15-year marriage to Bobby Brown was on the rocks and she and her daughter were described as "at each other's throats."

Halperin theorizes that at least part of the reason for all Houston's angst could stem from the widespread belief that she was never allowed to declare her love for childhood friend and longtime assistant Robyn Crawford.

The two were so close there were times when even Bobby Brown expressed concerns.

In his memoir, he wrote, "The media was accusing her of having a bisexual relationship. In Whitney's situation, the only solution was to get married and have kids." Crawford, now a marketing consultant who is openly gay, resigned from the superstar's production company in 2000.

In the case of Bobbi Kristina, while talk of suicide has run rampant since she was rushed to the emergency room on Jan. 31, Halperin also theorizes that she may have fallen victim to something known among heavy drug users as "the plunge."

The medically unsafe practice involves plunging an overdose victim into cold water while administering slaps to revive them.

Whitney Houston died a little more than three years before her daughter's tragic episode. She too was found face down in the bathtub of the Beverly Hills hotel where she was staying. Authorities have since revealed she had drugs in her system at the time of her death.
