Xbox One: Console Offered With 1 TB of Storage, New Controller Introduced
Xbox One will start offering a one terabyte console next week. The new console will be twice as large as the 500 GB console and will have a slightly different design to it, CNET reports.
Microsoft announced the new console Tuesday and said it will be available starting June 16 in the U.S. The console will also have a matte finish across the top. The previous consoles had a half-glossy finish on the top of the console.
The 1 TB Xbox One will cost $399, and for a limited time it will include Halo: The Master Chief Collection in the box.
The only other 1 TB Xbox One that was ever available was the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle that was released last fall.
Also getting an update for Xbox One is the controller, Microsoft announced. The controller will be shipped with all Xbox One versions. It features a 3.5mm stereo headset jack. This jack will allow players to use any headset they choose, instead of being limited to headsets that plug into the Xbox One micro-USB port.
The extra 500 GB of storage will be appreciated by many players. Players will be able to download more digital titles and store them in the hard drive, and many titles that are on a disc still require the game to be downloaded to the hard drive. With the extra storage, players will be much less worried that they will run out of hard drive space.
Thanks to the new 1 TB console, the previous 500 GB consoles will see a price reduction. Microsoft announced on Tuesday that the 500 GB Xbox One console will now be $349 permanently. Xbox One has offered the $349 price on and off as a special price, but its official price was $399.
The announcement of the new console comes a week before the E3 Gaming Expo. E3 is where new consoles or upgrades are usually announced. The E3 Gaming Expo will be held next week in Los Angeles.
Microsoft released one more product announcement Tuesday. The Xbox Wireless Adapter will begin shipping in the fall, The Verge reported. This adapter will allow players to stream their Xbox One content on Windows 10 PCs, laptops and tablets. The adapter can be purchased for $24.99 or in a bundle with the new Xbox One controller for $79.95.
