Fans of "The Big Bang Theory" will have to wait until late September to see what will happen to Sheldon and Amy following their shocking breakup in the Season 8 finale in May.

The finale ended with an emotional cliffhanger as Sheldon and Amy's slow-moving relationship came to a dramatic end. After dating for years, Amy told Sheldon that she was fed up and frustrated with the lack of growth in their relationship and needed space.

"Being your girlfriend is so challenging, emotionally, physically," Amy told Sheldon via video chat. "This isn't easy to say because I love you, but I need some time to take a step back and reevaluate our situation. I hope you understand."

Devastated by the breakup, Sheldon began talking to the Gollum figurine on his desk and pulled out an engagement ring that he planned to give Amy.

In a recent discussion on Reddit, user @movieman994 suggested that although Sheldon might try to win back Amy, the couple will face another obstacle when Sheldon's mother butts into their relationship.

"I have a prediction that Amy and Sheldon get together in the first few episodes and engaged as well. But in the last episode, they plan a wedding date and Sheldon informs his mother. When Mrs. Cooper finally meets Amy she instantly hates her because Amy does not believe in God, hence causing a stir between Sheldon and his mother," the Reddit user wrote.

However, other fans of the comedy series had different predictions for the show. Many also did not foresee Mrs. Cooper becoming involved in her son's relationship or possibly disliking Amy, especially since Amy helped Sheldon become a better person, Movie News Guide reported.

According to CarterMatt, CBS announced that Season 9 of "The Big Bang Theory" will kick off on Monday, Sept. 21 at 8 p.m. EST.
