Jon Bernthal from the earlier seasons of “The Walking Dead” will be joining the rest of the cast of Netflix’s “Daredevil.”

The show’s second season will be returning sometime next year, and Marvel confirmed that Bernthal will be portraying the role of The Punisher, who is also known as Frank Castle.

Marvel explained that The Punisher is very popular in the Marvel universe. The anti-hero has waged war on criminals and he will stop at nothing to put an end to crimes.

Only very little detail has been provided regarding the hit show’s upcoming season, but the head of television of Marvel, Jeph Loeb, revealed that they selected Bernthal because of the “unmatched intensity to every role he takes on.”

“Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same,” Loeb said. “Daredevil” show runners are positive that Bernthal possesses “a potent blend of power, motivation, and vulnerability that will connect with audiences.”

“Daredevil” is one of today’s highly watched TV shows, especially since it has gotten a lot of positive reviews and high ratings from critics, as indicated on Rotten Tomatoes. The show’s executive producer is Doug Petrie of “American Horror Story,” Drew Goddard of “Lost,” and Marco Ramirez of “DaVinci’s Demons,” in addition to Loeb himself – who has experience as the executive producer of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

In other news, Latino-Review recently claimed that Jason Statham was going to be part of “Daredevil” season 2 as Bullseye, much to the delight of the show’s fans. However, the people at Marvel Television told CBR News that there is “no truth to it at all.”

It appears Statham has no interest in the Marvel universe as well. In an interview with i400calci, the actor said, "I could take my grandma and put her in a cape, and they'll put her on a green screen, and they'll have stunt doubles come in and do all the action... Anybody can do it."
