Amber Rose Calls Herself a 'Feminist Monster,' Credits Social Media With Stopping Her From Being 'Submissive to a Man'
Amber Rose is a changed woman these days. The model says she credits the rise of social media for changing her views on sex and self-confidence.
"I was always about girl power, but I didn't quite get it because I did always feel like I had to be completely submissive to a man," she recently told Cosmopolitan. "I was always very unhappy doing that. I think I needed time to grow up."
A self-proclaimed "feminist monster," the 31-year-old added she's sure everyone gets to a point and time in their life where they learn who they really are. At the other end of the spectrum, Rose claims her first experience with stripping at age 15 showed her just how much that kind of lifestyle wasn't meant for her then.
"I did it and I was like, 'Oh, hell no, I cannot do this.' I was a kid. I think I was still a virgin at the time. Being onstage with my boobs out, it was like, 'Oh my god, this is not for me,'" she said.
Yet, by the time she was 18, Rose found herself back on the stage and again stripping, only that time she considered the seven-year experience a high point in her life.
"All the girls were really cool," she added. "The guys weren't allowed to touch you. I was never sexually assaulted or [anything]."
It's that unfiltered and uninhibited nature she now believes makes her such a raging success on social media.
"I think the turning point was when I just stopped giving a f--k about what people say," explained Wiz Khalifa's ex, who is now rumored to be dating fellow rapper Machine Gun Kelly. "One day I just woke up and I was like, 'You know what? I can't sit around and stress anymore about the Internet and what people say about me. I just gotta do me.'"
