Love is in the air during the Season 2 premiere of the ABC Family drama "Chasing Life," as April (Italia Ricci) and Leo (Scott Michael Foster) celebrate their engagement.

Overall, executive producer Patrick Sean Smith is heralding the new season as a "fun place" for the show and staffers to be.

"We're shooting right now on set, and we're heading to Boston to shoot there. And it's a really big season. There is not a single filler to be had. I'm proud of the scripts we have, and it's reinvigorating to take April in the direction where it's not all about her chasing the article or byline but she's actually chasing her life," Smith said, according to E! News.

In a season touted as a time of big change for April, the end of the show's first year saw her battling her recurring cancer condition and deciding to walk away from her job as a newspaper reporter.

Show creators are excited about the decision to move the premiere date for Season 2 up by nearly six weeks.

Variety reports the network has squashed its initial Aug. 17 air date and now plans to feature the program as part of its "drama-heavy Monday night" summer schedule along with "The Fosters" and the new trans-gender docuseries "Becoming Us," starting July 6.

Another factor for the change could be the fact that last season's show was forced to compete with the CW's "Jane the Virgin" for its young, female audience. With the new premiere date and time slot, the two shows will no longer go head to head.

Smith also previously hinted to TVLine that in moving to bring April and Leo closer together, series' creators have proven just how open they are to venturing in new directions.

"An element of the show we're going to explore more in the second season is "all bets are off," he said.

Smith went on reason that growing closer to Leo simply makes sense in April's mind, even if the timing of it all might seem a bit strange to some given her somewhat ustable condition.

"The idea of accepting a marriage proposal in the heat of the moment felt right to her, deciding she has to give up her career to see what happens next felt right to her," he said.
