Carrie Underwood is pleasantly finding motherhood to be a lot less than she expected.

The "Jesus Take The Wheel" singer and her NHL husband, Mike Fisher, welcomed their first child a little more than three months ago, and to date, Underwood insists her strains have been few and far between.

"I think I honestly expected -- it's gonna sound weird -- but I expected the worst," she told People of the couple's approach to making Isaiah Michael a part of their world. "I've never been around babies before, to be honest, but he's so laid-back."

Underwood believes she and her husband are the exact same way. And so, in her mind, the chords the trio have struck together have been magical.

"It's a little easier than I thought it was gonna be," gushed the 32-year-old mom. "I think I just expected, like, screaming, crying baby all the time, and he's just happy and smiley and gorgeous."

Underwood now finds her mornings to be most pleasant of all.

"When he first wakes up, he's the sweetest," she said. "He's a morning baby. He is smiley and laugh-y and happy and cuddly and that hour, the first hour he's awake, is just the best."

Through it all, Underwood doesn't appear to have missed a beat in the studio, as evidenced by her recent history-making night at the CMT Music Awards.

According to Taste of Country, the Season 4 "American Idol" winner walked away with top honors for Collaborative Video and Female Video of the Year.

"This is my first award show since little Isaiah has been in the world," she told the crowd. "He has already inspired me so much."

Underwood accepted the Collaborative Video award on behalf of herself and partner Miranda Lambert for their "Somethin' Bad" hit, which was the first No. 1 hit by two women on the Billboard Hot Country charts in more than 20 years.
