Software updates are coming to the HTC One M9. These updates will improve the camera performance and other performance updates, Pocket-Lint reports.

The M9's newest version of software is 1.40. This version is already available in Taiwan and it will come to Europe, the Middle East and Africa next. M9 owners in the U.S. can expect the update in July.

The update is not an update to Android 5.1. By updating to 1.40, users will still be running Android 5.1 and Sense 7, but they will receive performance improvements for their M9 device.

The software update focuses on the camera. The camera has received criticism for its picture quality.

The exposure balance will improve with the software update. This means that there will be less overexposure incidences. Low light performance improvements have also been made to the camera, resulting in less blurry and noisy photos.

The low light improvements are especially important to the M9. The M9 performs the poorest compared to its rivals in low light situations. With the improvements, images will be clearer and more detailed.

Colors in photographs should also improve with the software update. In bright daylight, pictures can sometimes have a slight yellow appearance to them. These color errors should be corrected with the software update.

Battery life will get slight improvements with the software update. It addresses two battery hungry apps, Facebook and YouTube. Users who enjoy these two apps will be able to use them without fearing that their battery will be quickly depleted.

When charging the battery with the Quick Charger, the M9 can get pretty hot. The software update will keep the temperature down when the M9 is being charged with the Quick Charger.
