Although fans of "The Vampire Diaries" were forced to say goodbye to Elena in the Season 6 finale, there will still be a lot to look forward to when the series returns to The CW this fall.

Elena said goodbye to her loved ones during the Season 6 finale after Kai put a spell on her that will keep her in a coma-like state as long as Bonnie is alive. As a result, it is likely that she will not awake from comatose for about 60 to 70 years from now.

However, the series is far from over. Viewers can expect to see much more of Annie Wersching's character, Lily "Mama" Salvatore, in Season 7, reports The Wrap.

Damon and Stefan's long-lost mother resurrected in the latter half of Season 6 and reconnected with her heretic friends, which are vampires with witch powers. According to The Wrap, Wershcing will return to Mystic Falls for a major recurring arc as a major antagonist going forward on the vampire drama.

TVLine's Ausiello also teased that fans will see a lot more of Mama Salvatore, her band of renegade heretic and Enzo in Season 7. Executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that Enzo will get caught in the middle of a war between Mama Salvatore and her sons. "He's eventually going to have to choose a side," Dries told TVLine. "In some ways, he feels drawn to Lily; she turned him and she's the only real family he has. But he's also friends with Damon, so it's going to create an interesting dilemma, and whichever side he chooses will have serious ramifications."

Furthermore, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that Enzo will have a bigger role next season.

"I'm really looking forward to how Enzo gets put in the middle of Lily's heretic world and the Damon/Mystic Falls/Caroline world in season seven," Dries told E! News. "He needs to figure out which side he's on and who he's loyal to. There's going to be some major fallout to that."
