FIFA Women’s World Cup Group A Schedule: Canada vs Netherlands, China vs New Zealand Live Stream & Preview
Group A action of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup will resume on Monday and all four teams are expected to go all out in the hopes of earning a spot in the knockout stages.
Canada vs. Netherlands
Canada will look to clinch the top spot in Group A when they go up against Netherlands at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, Canada.
Canada are currently on top of the group with four points after scoring a 1-0 win against China in their tournament opener and settling for a scoreless draw against New Zealand on Thursday.
The hosts have only scored one goal in the tournament, which is raising doubts about their chances to win the World Cup at home. Forward Christine Sinclair said the goals will eventually come, but she admitted that it will not be easy because they are going up against the best teams in the world.
"We've created chances. Sooner or later they're going to go in," Sinclair said. "People have to realize it's the World Cup -- we're playing against the best teams in the world. There are no slouches."
China vs. New Zealand
China are currently second to Canada in the group, but they still need to score a victory in their upcoming match against New Zealand at the Winnipeg Stadium.
China are coming off a confidence-boosting 1-0 win against Netherlands on Tuesday and a draw against New Zealand could be enough for them to advance to the next round.
However, China coach Hao Wei insisted that they cannot afford to take risks and said in an interview that they will go for the win against New Zealand to earn a sure ticket to the knockout stages.
On the other hand, New Zealand have no other choice but to win against China if they want to have at least a chance of earning one of the 16 spots in the next round.
A loss will put them at the bottom of their group, while a win could push them up to second place depending on the result of the other match.
"It's going to be a game where both teams are fully committed to getting the result they need," New Zealand coach Tony Readings said via NZ Herald. "It's two teams who have been pretty close in the past in terms of performances and results so hopefully it will be a good show."
