Disney's most famous witch, Maleficent, is set to return once again to the big screen. A sequel to the successful live-action retelling of the character's story is currently in development.

According to The Wrap, Linda Woolverton, who penned the first film's screenplay, is said to be in talks with Disney executives for a second installment.

Once the deal is finalized, Woolverton will be tasked to write the screenplay with the expectation that Angelina Jolie will be back to reprise her role as Maleficent.

However, it remains to be seen if the Academy Award winner will agree to a sequel to the Disney movie as no deal has been made yet between her and the studio.

Jolie, is known for being hesitant in making film sequels after it was reported that the second film she made for "Tomb Raider" did not do so well on the box office as expected.

In addition, the studios behind "Wanted" and "Salt" were keen on making sequels for both movies but the actress turned it down, which led to the projects being shelved, added The Wrap.

While Jolie might have been wary of sequels and has shown no interest in ever making one again, the actress might change her mind considering "Maleficent" is one of her favorite characters.

During the premiere of the movie in China, the "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" star hinted of the possibility that she will once again don the black cape and staff carried by the witch originally from "Sleeping Beauty."

"It's kind of hard to top her, she was pretty fun. Maybe I'll get a chance to play her again," the actress replied to The Hollywood Reporter when asked if she'd be back for a sequel of the film.

Her remark may not have been a confirmation of her agreement to be Maleficent once again, but it does send hope that she would be willing to consider the offer if it comes up.

Meanwhile, Robert Stromberg is out of the directorial chair for the sequel although no new name has been announced and linked to the project. Joe Roth, on the other hand, will be back to produce the sequel.

It is still unknown whether Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Imelda Staunton, Brenton Thwaites and Sam Riley will reprise their roles in "Maleficent 2."
