Paraguay vs Jamaica: Copa America 2015 Schedule, Preview, Where to Watch & Live Stream
Jamaica and Paraguay will look to keep their chances of advancing to the knockout stage when they face off in a crucial match at the Estadio Regional de Antofagasta on Tuesday.
Paraguay showed in their tournament opener that they can stand toe-to-toe with the top teams in the tournament. They allowed Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero to give Argentina a 2-0 lead on Saturday, but they bounced back big time in the second half of the match.
Nelson Valdez put Paraguay within striking distance when he netted a goal from outside the box in the 60th minute. He also had a chance to score the equalizer in the 71st minute, but his short-range strike went wide.
Argentina looked on their way to winning their first match of the tournament, but Lucas Barrios leveled the match for Paraguay with a goal in the 91st minute off a great assist from Paulo Da Silva.
On the other hand, Jamaica kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 loss against defending Copa America champions Uruguay on Saturday off a goal from Cristian Rodriguez in the 52nd minute of the match.
But despite losing in their opener, Jamaica coach Winfried Schafer said he is proud of his players for keeping in step with their heavily favored opponent in the first half and showing determination when they were already down 1-0 following the goal from Rodriguez.
"I'm very proud of the players and the team, we played very well," Schafer said. "After the goal we played more aggressively. I think the players played very well for Jamaica, everyone gave 100 percent. In South America, everyone knows that on our day we can play very well."
Schafer also expressed confidence they can win against Paraguay on Tuesday or even hold Argentina to a draw in their final group game on Saturday.
"We know we can beat Paraguay, maybe we can take a point against Argentina," Schafer added. "Why not? We have to believe in ourselves."
