Floyd Mayweather Jr. has finally said who he wants to go up against in his next fight before retirement. The unbeaten world champion said he is willing to face Oscar Dela Hoya to give him the rematch he has been asking for all these years.

The two fought each other in 2007, where Mayweather won over the boxer called "Golden Boy" via a split decision. Since then, talks of a rematch have gone around.

Dela Hoya was serious in facing Mayweather once again that in May 2008, he went against Steve Forbes in a tune-up fight to help him prepare for the rematch. However, his calls for another shot against the then-welterweight champion went unanswered.

De La Hoya fought Manny Pacquiao next in December 2008 and lost via technical knockout. This would later prove to be his last match before staying away from boxing as he announced his retirement from the sport in 2009.

The match between Mayweather and Dela Hoya eight years ago once held the record for most pay-per-view buys, noted Boxing Scene. It generated 2.4 million PPVs, but the record-setting match between Pacquiao and Mayweather took the top spot this year.

After Mayweather won against his highly anticipated bout with Pacquiao, he expressed his desire to hang up his gloves after one more match in September.

Many have speculated that his last bout before retirement will be a rematch against Pacquiao, but the Filipino boxing icon cannot fight in September after undergoing shoulder surgery and Mayweather already expressed that he's not going to face Pacquiao again.

With all the cards on the table, perhaps Mayweather found that the best possible option is to call for a rematch with dela Hoya.

"I seen a little thing with Oscar, saying that he's coming back. I mean, if he want to we can rock and roll in September," said Mayweather in an interview with sports journalist Ken Dalsby. "We can do it 154. He already know that. He said he wanted a rematch. So if he want it we can do it in September. He already knows how I operate."

But for Dela Hoya, Mayweather already lost his chance.

"So I hear Floyd wants to give me a rematch now. Our first fight had a rematch clause. It had to take place within the year. He retired a year and one day," De La Hoya said through Instagram. "Look, I'm retired, I'm happy, I'm content. I'm never coming back. I'm gonna continue growing Golden Boy."

If not Pacquiao or Dela Hoya, who should Mayweather fight next?

Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, who already stated that his dream match is to go against Mayweather, is definitely out of the picture.

"I finally got a chance to see the guy fight. Congratulations for everything that he's done but even at my weight he can't beat me," said Mayweather to Boxing Scene. "I don't knock him. He can't beat me."
