Denis Martin Death: Race Car Driver Killed In Car Accident, Was Reportedly Going 113 MPH
Race car driver Denis Martin was killed on Wednesday after a car accident on National Route 5 while on his way to Buenos Aires.
The reigning Formula Metropolitan Track Mouras champion driver, died after his car, a Volkswagen, went off the road, reportedly throwing the 23-year-old driver out of the driver's seat.
The car was apparently going at 113 mph and, as reported by ESPN Deportes, overturned. Martin, who was not wearing a seat belt, was killed from a cervical vertebrae dislocation and injuries to the neck.
The young driver's body was taken to Alberti Hospital, where it was examined by doctors to determine cause of death. Martin made his race car driving debut this year and has several races under his belt. A while before the accident, the driver seemed to be in good spirits and showed no signs of trouble. He took to his Twitter account to express how he needed to stop for a cup of coffee and then continue with his trip.
Fellow race car drivers and fans have showed their support for the driver and his family. They sent out prayers and well-wishes on Twitter after news of his death made its way online.
Driver Augustín Canapino said on Twitter, "Very sad news... RIP Denis Martin. A big hug and many forces his family and friends."
Josito Di Palma noted how shocked by the news he was. The driver stated, "Woke up and found this is very sad news. My strength to the family of Denis Martin. So much ahead so young. Crazy."
Martin's last tweet came on June 17. The race car driver said he was on his way to Buenos Aires.
"A calm route, first stop to drink a good coffee," he said. "On my way to Buenos Aires."
