With the season premiere of "Proof," executive producer Kyra Sedgwick has revealed spoilers and a behind-the-scenes look at the new TNT show.

The actress, who is best known for "The Closer," spoke about the casting process and revealed that the lead role for the show was one of the hardest roles to cast.

"It was super challenging. We knew we'd have to find somebody great. If you don't find the right person, you don't really have a show," Sedgwick said.

"We were struggling, we really were. Jennifer [Beals] came in in the last hour of our last casting session. To say that the answer to our prayers walked through our door was an understatement. She was unbelievable in every way. She's so perfect for the role."

She added that during the process she gave Beals a lot of advice as Sedgewick has gone through a similar process when she did "The Closer."

"I think that she had a sense of it, but we definitely talked about it," Sedgwick said.

"I don't really think you know what it's like until you're actually in the trenches. I would give her advice like, you really need an assistant, you really do need to have somebody that's cooking for you, you really do need someone to run lines with you and we need to make sure that she gets her scripts early in advance and that they're locked and not changing a whole bunch before she shoots scenes."

Sedgwick also revealed the show filmed for more than 12 hours per day and that there were a lot of exhausting days. Sedgwick said it was the first time she was strictly behind the scenes, and it was her moment to do something different in her career.

"Proof" premiered on June 16 to good reviews, and it is a procedural and supernatural drama that tells the story of a brilliant surgeon who searches for proof of life after death.
