HP Pro Tablet 608 Specs: New Thin and Light Tablet from HP to Be Powered by Windows 10 and Use USB-C Port
The new HP Pro Tablet 608 is an 8-inch tablet that will display HD-quality images and will utilize Windows 10. It will also be one of the lightest and thinnest tablets that consumers can buy, according to Tech Radar.
The HP Pro Tablet 608 is just 0.32 inches thick and only weights 0.79 pounds. This makes it one of the lightest and thinnest tablets currently available for purchase. Only the ultra-thin Sony Xperia Z2 tablet at 0.25 inches is thinner. The lightest tablet available comes from Dell, with the Venue 8 7000 weighing just 0.68 pounds.
The HP Pro Tablet 608 is designed for business users. It offers a 2,048 x 1,536 resolution in its 8-inch by 5.39-inch frame.
According to HP, the battery life on the tablet lasts about eight hours before it needs to be recharged. The HP Pro Tablet 608 even offers a pretty powerful camera for a tablet. The HP Pro Tablet 608 includes an 8 megapixel (MP) rear-facing camera and a 2 MP front-facing camera.
The HP Pro Tablet 608 will offer a USB-C port. USB-C ports are being included in many of the latest devices because of its universal connectivity, eliminating the need for multiple ports.
The USB-C port will be able to power optional accessories on the HP Pro Tablet 608 such as the smartpen, wireless keyboards and portable dock accessories.
According to ZDNet, the microSD slot on the HP Pro Tablet 608 will allow up to an additional 2 TB of storage.
A special accessory will help the HP Pro Tablet 608 accept mobile payments. The HP Pro Tablet Mobile Retail Solution is a tablet case that also allows mobile payment technology. This will allow the tablet to accept payments from EMV, NFC, MSR and digital wallets like Apple and Google Pay.
The HP Pro Tablet 608 will be powered by an Intel Atom Quad Core Z8500 processor, offering up to 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. These specifications are similar to the Lenovo Thinkpad 10.
Even with a pretty powerful processor, the HP Pro Tablet 608 falls behind in performance to the Microsoft Surface 3, which uses an Intel Atom x7 Z8700 chip.
Customers will have to wait until late August for the Windows 10 version of the HP Pro Tablet 608, the operating system which it is optimized for. For those who can't wait until then, the Windows 8.1 version of the tablet will be available in mid-July. A free upgrade to Windows 10 will be offered to those users on July 29.
