Android M is coming and all Android powered devices will be getting the upgrade.

The timing of each device's upgrade will depend on the maker of the device, according to TechRadar

In Android M, improvements will be made to battery life, greater app permission controls will be offered, standardized support for fingerprint sensors and more be added. Additionally, new Google Now features will be included.

Android M is expected to debut sometime in the third quarter, likely September. Owners of Nexus devices will have the earliest access to it, though.

The Google Nexus has the advantage of seeing the first update to Android M, according to Android Pit. Google has plans for an updated Nexus device this year -- possibly two. The new Nexus phones will likely come with Android M pre-installed. The developer preview of Android M is already available on Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player.

Samsung will work hard to get Android M on their phones quickly. When Lollipop was released, Samsung quickly released updates for it. The Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge and Galaxy Note 4 will likely see the update to Android M shortly after it is released. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 5 might even come pre-loaded with Android M when it comes out in September. Older Samsung devices will have to wait slightly longer for their update to Android M. Devices older than the Galaxy S5 might not see the update at all.

HTC will see Android M on the HTC One M9 and the HTC One M9 Plus. When Lollipop was released, HTC devices started seeing the updates within 90 days. There will likely be a similar time-frame for Android M, meaning updates should take place in December. Other phones expected to see the update are the HTC One M8, One M8s and the Desire Eye.

Sony has not announced when it will receive the update to Android M, nor have they announced which devices would get it. Recent devices like the Sony Xperia Z3 sereies, the Xperia Z4 Tablet and the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact will probably get the update. The Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z1 Compact have a good chance of getting the update as well.

LG devices will get the Android M update quickly. The LG G4 received the update to Lollipop right away and the same release time is expected for Android M. An upcoming LG G4 Pro could come with Android M pre-installed. Also expected to receive the update are the LG G Flex 2 and the LG G4c.
