Roof's shooting massacre is believed to be a hate crime against the African American people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston.
E! News reports that Roof has confession to "carrying out" what he describes as his mission. He is currently in jail in North Charleston.
"This is an absolute hate crime," South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley told NBC's Today show. "We absolutely will want him to have the death penalty."
In addition to Beyonce, other celebrities have paid tribute to the victims and have shared their opinion on Roof's senseless killing, the Los Angeles Times reports. Some of the celebrities include Nicki Minaj, Bruno Mars, Common, Taylor Swift and Aja Naomi King.
