'Bourne 5' Movie Release Date & Cast News: Julia Stiles Returning, Viggo Mortensen Possible Villain & More Updates Here
The upcoming latest installment of the "Bourne" series of films starring Matt Damon is gaining steam. Reports have come up that actress Julia Stiles will return to the movie to reprise her role while a new actor is eyed to be the villain in the next film.
According to Deadline, the 34-year-old actress will come back as covert agent Nicolette "Nicky" Parsons, who became friends with Jason Bourne and helped him recover his memories that have been affected with amnesia to know the truth why CIA agents were running after him.
The "10 Things I Hate About You" actress was part of the first three films in the Jason Bourne story.
Meanwhile, it seems that the people behind the film are looking to add "Lord of the Rings" alum, Viggo Mortensen, to the cast of the upcoming movie. Jeff Sneider from The Wrap revealed his potential inclusion in the movie in a post on his social networking account, Twitter.
"BREAKING: VIGGO MORTENSEN offered bad guy role in next BOURNE movie," posted Sneider. Not too many details have been included in the news and it remains unclear at this point whether the actor is confirmed for the film or not.
Aside from Mortensen, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander might also join the cast of the fifth Bourne movie. Another article on Deadline stated that the "Ex Machina" actress is also in talks to be part of the movie.
However, with Vikander also lined up to do "The Circle" with Tom Hanks at the same time "Bourne 5" is set to be in production, it seems that the actress is more likely to be part of the action-suspense film with Damon than the movie based from the novel of Dave Eggers.
The role that was supposedly offered for Vikander in "Bourne 5" is still unknown.
Paul Greengrass will return to direct the movie. It will be his third time to sit in the directorial chair after he took the reins from Doug Liman to helm the second and third film in the Damon-starring Bourne series.
The director is also co-writing the screenplay alongside Christopher Rouse and will produce the movie with Damon, Greg Goodman and Frank Marshall.
With the focus returning to Jason Bourne after the series shifted to ex-CIA agent Aaron Cross, portrayed by Jeremy Renner, some fans have expressed their desire for a cross-over that will also see Renner in the upcoming fifth movie.
However, Marshall already stated in January that Renner and Damon starring in one film is not in the studio's plan for the franchise.
"We don't have plans for that," said Marshall to Collider. "You never know. I never say never. But that's not the plan. They're on separate tracks."
The movie will open on theaters on July 29, 2016.
