FIFA World Cup 2015 Live Stream & Schedule: England vs Norway Knockout Stage Match Preview
England and Norway will collide in the Round-of-16 of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup on Monday at the Lansdowne Stadium in Ottawa, Canada.
England advanced to the knockout stage by finishing second to France in Group F with six points from two wins and one loss, while Norway also ended up second to Germany in Group B with seven points from two victories and one draw during the group stage.
England, who finished the group stage with a 2-1 victory against Colombia, are slightly favored to win against Norway because they are the sixth-ranked team in the world.
However, England coach Mark Sampson reiterated that there are no favorites in a knockout match, especially in the World Cup because any team can pull off an upset against higher-ranked opponents.
"There's no underdogs in this game, this is the last 16 of a World Cup tournament," Sampson told Ottawa Sun. "We have huge respect for our opponents. We're focused on being at our maximum level to give ourselves a chance at that victory."
Sampson, who made his debut as England coach against Norway last year that ended in a 1-1 draw, said that they expect Norway to bring their A-game because of the importance of the match.
Aside from advancing to the quarterfinals, the winning team will also move one step closer to clinching a spot in the 2016 Olympic Games in Brazil as one of the top three European finishers in the World Cup.
Norway coach Even Pellerud also had nothing but praises for England, who have been climbing up the world rankings over the past several months. Pellerud echoed Sampson's statement, saying that there are no clear-cut favorites heading into the match, and anything can happen, citing Australia's huge win against Brazil on Sunday.
"We're expecting an English team that has been growing their performance level and a team that is going to play us with a lot of self-confidence," Pellerud said of their upcoming match against England. "It's going to be a battle like you saw between Brazil and Australia, two even teams."
