The upcoming 2016 release of The CW's "Legends of Tomorrow" will feature Ciara Renee cast as the legendary DC Comics character Hawkgirl. But now, according to Spoiler TV, fans have another surprise waiting for them on the network that has been churning one comic book series after another.

The standalone "Hawkgirl" series is currently in development for The CW network, and it has not yet been announced as to whether this show and the events that take place will occur before, after or during the events of "Legends of Tomorrow."

According to Den of Geek, Renee will be reprising her role on the new series as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl. The show will join a host of DC Comic Book shows currently on The CW network, including "Legends," "The Flash" and "Arrow." The immense popularity of these shows and many other comic book superhero shows on other mediums, which include film and competing networks, has become an emerging trend over the past decade.

The trend started with the network's success on "Smallville," which began on the WB and stayed with the network post-merger with UPN.

Saunders, who is also known as Hawkgirl, is a young woman who has been reincarnated several times over the centuries. After she learns this, she can embrace her ancient powers. This occurs when provoked. But she is an emerging superhero for both series, and soon, she starts to grow wings that give her the alter-ego nickname, according to Deadline.

The character of Hawkgirl also appeared on Season 9 of "Smallville," but she was portrayed by Sahar Biniaz at that time.

Renee has a short history of roles in her young career, most of which took place on the theatrical stage. She did have a guest appearance on NBC's "Law & Order: S.V.U." Her stage credits include roles on Broadway adaptations of "Big Fish" and "Pippin."
