Brazil striker and captain Neymar, Jr. will miss the remainder of his team's matches in Copa America 2015 as he leaves Chile after receiving a four-match ban from the organizers. Brazil has agreed not to appeal the suspension and has decided to send home the player instead.

The CBF issued a statement that announced it will accept the ban on the player.

"At a meeting held on Sunday evening between Neymar and the coaching staff, it was decided that the CBF will comply with the decision of the CONMEBOL, which suspended the player for four games, which leaves out of the Copa America," wrote the CBF on its official website.

The 23-year-old FC Barcelona player received a red card at the end of their match against Colombia last Wednesday. Brazil lost to the Los Cafeteros with a 1-0 score.

Neymar was booked for attempting to head-butt Colombian player Jeison Murillo that sparked a brawl. Colombian player Carlos Bacca was also awarded a red card for shoving Neymar in the ruckus.

Neymar was initially given a two-match provisional ban on Thursday after the controversial match, noted ESPN. It was later reduced to just one game but it was subjected to another change when the disciplinary board finally met on Friday to further discuss the "final punishment."

Apart from the melee on the field, match referee Enrique Osses complained that Neymar verbally confronted him at the dressing room tunnel after the fray on the field.

But CBF maintained that the official had shown impartiality against the Barcelona player. Neymar had previously maintained that he believes the rules were being "used against" him.

The former Santos player issued an apology on his Instagram page.

"Waited with great faith and hope so far by the possibility of still being able to serve the Brazilian national team in this Copa America," wrote the striker. "Unfortunately it will not be even possible."

He further expressed his regret for being unable to join his teammates but offered continued support for his team as they continue on their quest to win the title.

Neymar will head home on Monday.

CBF expressed their hope that the committee will express the same toughness it did with handing out Neymar's punishment in all of the competitions it will organize in the future.

Aside from the four-match ban, the striker was also fined $10,000.

Brazil will head on to the quarterfinals after it defeated Venezuela. The team will face Paraguay on June 27.
