While there is little known about the fifth "Transformers" film, Michael Bay may return to the franchise.

During a recent conversation with Collider, Mark Wahlberg revealed an update about the development of the new film, and he noted that the writers are working hard on making a solid script. He said, "Just that Akiva [Goldsman] and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that. But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I'm in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We'll get together when he gets back."

When asked if he thought Bay would return to the franchise Wahlberg said, "Yes." Bay has not confirmed his involvement, but a year ago the director said he would not be involved in any further installments. In an interview that he did with USA Today last year the director said, "There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make. I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles."

Bay has received a lot of criticism for the last three "Transformers" films as the scripts and the action sequences have been questionable. The decreasing box office has also been questioned. Last year the fourth installment failed to break the $300 million suggesting that demand was down and that audiences were tired of the films.

Bay is currently working on "13 Hours" in Malta, a movie about a Special Forces operation in response to the death of an US ambassador in Libya.

Meanwhile, Wahlberg has been filming "Deepwater Horizon" in New Orleans. The film is currently expected to come out next year, arriving at theaters on Sept. 30, 2016.

There is no date for the next Transformers film, but it is no secret Paramount wants to continue the franchise and possibly expand the world of the franchise.
