A man attacked a woman in Bryant Park with a machete on Tuesday in the center of Manhattan.

According to New York Post, police believe that it was an unprovoked attack.

"He goes into the park and he takes a machete and he hits a young lady who came from yoga class and she is, I believe, of Korean descent," said Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce.

He added that the victim suffered a "substantial gash on her right arm."

The 31-year-old woman was reportedly near 42nd street at around 11:30 in the morning when the man attacked her at the park. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital and is in stable condition.

People nearby who witnessed the attack said the man appeared to have been bothered by something.

"I mean obviously he has mental issues, I don't think anybody goes out and does that. He didn't look too happy, though, I'll give him that. He just kept his head to the ground," said a witness, 28-year-old Kyle Newberry.

"It was definitely a real machete and it was really sharp, he also had a screwdriver, which I thought was kind of weird," Newberry recalled observations of the suspect.

Police say the man has an extensive record, including bothering someone with a machete back in 2010.

Meanwhile, a man has been responsible in a string of attacks against Asian women in Manhattan, according to NBC News.

Police are investigating the case trying to see if it's linked to a blogger who wrote about his plans to attack Asian woman in order to give them "a legitimate reason to hate him."

"By starting an independent civil war where I will hit over a million Asian Women in the face with a stick will change history," the blogger wrote.

The writer was upset after being rejected by Asian women in SoHo.

A 25-year-old suspect is linked to attacking four Asian women in their 20s across Manhattan. Police wonder if he is linked to the blogger as well.
