Lenovo Ideacentre Stick 300 Specs & News: PC on a Stick Sells for Just $130
Lenovo is bringing its PC power to a small, portable device.
The Lenovo Ideacentre Stick 300 is about the size of a USB stick and it offers a full computer experience, CNet reports.
At just $130, the Ideacentre Stick 300 is affordable to many, but it still offers similar specifications to a full-sized PC or laptop.
The Ideacentre Stick 300 is just 3.94 inches wide, 1.5 inches deep and 0.59 inches high and is extremely portable. It can be carried anywhere and plugged into any TV or PC with an HDMI port.
Once plugged into an HDMI port, the Ideacentre Stick 300 allows users to access their files and use the onboard apps. The device has enough power to allow users to play some games, surf the web and video chat with their friends.
This is the first time Lenovo has entered this category of PCs. Lenovo is already ranked No. 1 in the worldwide PC market and No. 3 in the smartphone market. Similar mini PCs are offered from Microsoft and Intel.
Engadget calls the Ideacentre Stick 300 a "sleeker, more polished version of Intel's Compute Stick."
The Ideacentre Stick 300 will be powered by an Intel Atom processor. It will come with 2 GB of RAM and up to 32 GB of internal storage space. The stick will have WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. On the device, one HDMI port and one MicroUSB 2.0 port allow for external devices to be plugged in. There is also a small speaker on the device.
For starters, the Ideacentre Stick 300 will ship with Windows 8.1. However, users will be able to upgrade to Windws 10 for free starting July 29. A three-month trial of Windows Office will be offered with the purchase of the stick.
Users will need to purchase a wireless keyboard and mouse to operate the device.
"We've looked at the computing needs of travelers, business people and families, and realized that a truly portable and affordable solution would be a significant benefit to users of all kinds," Jun Ouyang, Lenovo's general manager for Worldwide Desktop and Visuals, said in a press release. "Our goal with the Ideacentre Stick 300 is to give those users a sense of freedom and enhanced mobility, while packing a serious punch in a small device."
The Ideacentre Stick 300 will first become available on Lenovo's website in July and at certain retailers as well.
