Star Wars Episode 7 Movie, Cast, and News: Shooting Begins May the 4th; Judi Dench to Play Mon Motha?
J.J. Abrams has confirmed that the script for Star Wars Episode 7 has been completed, which means that the rumors about casting and shooting are going into overdrive. Today's rumors suggest that the movie will being shooting on May 4 (a day that is sacred in the Star Wars universe), and that Dame Judi Dench will be playing Mon Motha.
First, according to Metro, Abrams (who is notoriously tight-lipped about his projects; remember, this was the man who denied the existence of Khan while filming Star Trek: Into Darkness) confirmed that the shooting for the film will begin in the United Kingdom in May of this year. This has led to speculation that the shooting will begin May 4, commonly coined "Star Wars Day," which is when fans of the film tell each other, "May the 4th be with you."
Current day Star Wars fans may not be aware of the British origins of the phrase: when Margaret Thatcher took office as Britain's first female Prime Minister on May 4, 1979, her party placed an advertisement in The London Evening News that said "May the Fourth Be with You, Maggie. Congratulations." This reading of the line has also been recorded in the U.K. Parliament's Hansard.
Speaking of British Star Wars references, the rumors according to Screen Rant confirm that the latest candidate for a role is none other than British actress Dame Judi Dench, who will be playing Mon Motha. However, by their own admission, they really don't have too much in the way of fact to back it up, except for Big Shiny Robot's Full of Sith podcast. (Nice name, by the way.) And even then, it was merely stated that Dench's name was being considered for a role.
Of course, as Alec Guinness has proven, it wouldn't be the first time that an acclaimed British actor has been used in the Star Wars universe...and Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing can back him up.
