'Fallout 4' Release Date & Update: Here's What We Know About 'The Pip-Boy Edition'
Ever since Bethesda Softworks announced that a real life Pip-Boy is coming to the collector's edition of "Fallout 4," many fans of the post-apocalyptic shooting game have been eager to get their hands on the nifty device. If you're one of those who ever wondered what the Pip-Boy is for, here are some things you need to know about the special edition wrist gadget.
The Pip-Boy is a device that resembles a smartwatch and is used by the characters in the "Fallout" series to access different kinds of information. In the recent E3 event in Los Angeles, Bethesda Executive Producer and Game Director Todd Howard introduced the device to the delight of the fans.
In the game, the wearable armband device allows characters to check information they need in their missions. While the Pip-Boy could serve the same purpose in real life, that would depend on how much users rely on the information they get from their smartphones as the sleeve is more of a chunky holder to slot the devices into, described The Verge.
Since Bethesda is coming out with a companion iOS and Android app for the upcoming game, accessing the application through a mobile device inserted in the Pip-Boy would provide users a more realistic feel of the game.
Of course, those who opt to forego the Pip-Boy can still access the application in their mobile devices.
The Pip-Boy is part of a collector's edition that Bethesda has released for the latest iteration of "Fallout." It comes in the Pip-Boy Collector's Edition that contains the Pip-Boy device, a poster, the regular game and some other items, noted Gotta Be Mobile.
The collector's version of "Fallout 4" is priced at double the regular rate given if one will only buy the game. But the expensive price did not deter many of those who have been eager to cop the wrist device.
It has been reported sold out on Amazon, Best Buy and GameStop. Bethesda, on the other hand, only accepts pre-orders for the popular edition on its online store.
The Pip-Boy Collector's Edition is also sold overseas although the developers have assured fans outside the U.S. that it will do its best to make sure that the Pip-Boy will be back in stock soon.
Some sellers have even taken advantage of the high demand for the Pip-Boy that some were seen on sale on eBay at exorbitant prices.
Bethesda has not announced whether the Pip-Boy wearable device will be sold separately in the future.
"Fallout 4" will debut on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 10.
