At least part of Chris Rock's time on Season 2 of "Empire" will be spent behind bars, where he is an inmate alongside series star Lucious Lyon.

Show co-creator Lee Daniels recently took to Instagram to post several photos from the first day of filming for the new season where Rock and Terrence Howard, who stars as Lucious, light up the screen in their orange, prison jumpsuits.

According to TMZ, Rock is the first in an ever-growing list of special guest stars set to make highly anticipated appearances this season. Alicia Keys and Lenny Kravitz are also already penciled in and there's talk that even Oprah Winfrey, who starred alongside Daniels in "The Butler," may soon follow.

The New York Daily News reports Rock spent a part of his first day as a new member of the crew, well, being Chris Rock.

When Howard admitted that he accidentally punched the "New Jack City" star in the stomach at least four different times throughout the day, Rock packed perhaps the biggest wallop of all.

"I don't know if it was an accident," he joked, in an apparent reference to Howard's history of domestic abuse charges. "He does have a reputation."

The 50-year-old is expected to play a far more serious character on the Fox Network series, which officially kicks off its second season on Sept. 23.

"Empire" also stars Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon, Jussie Smollett as Jamal Lyon, Trai Byers as Andre Lyon, Bryshere Y. Gray as Hakeem Lyon, Kaitlin Doubleday as Rhonda Lyon and Grace Gealey as Anika Calhoun.

Season 2 is also slated to increase from last year's allotment of 12 episodes to 18 this time around and will air during both the fall and winter seasons.

After drawing an audience of nearly 14 million for its premiere broadcast, the show continued to shock industry watchers by steadily increasing its audience throughout the first season.
