Call of Duty: Ghosts is arguably the best game on the market, but is the next-gen version of the game really that much better?

The best-selling game in December was Call of Duty: Ghosts and it is available on both the older and newer generations of video game platforms. Gamers who have been used to playing COD games on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were treated to the next-gen version in the tail end of 2013.

One reason to believe that the next-gen game may not really be that much better than its predecessor is the fact that gamers can carry over their old stats to the next-gen game.

As Callofduty.com says, "When you upgrade to a next-generation console within the same console family (e.g., from Xbox 360 to Xbox One, or from PS3 to PS4), your Multiplayer stats and progress will move with you; so there is no need to re-start leveling up your squad from the beginning."

If the game was really that much different and improved in the next-gen version, one would think that it would require completely different standards in terms of statistics.

IGN's Scott Lowe thinks otherwise, however. In a review dating back to November of 2013, Lowe said the difference between the older and new version is "drastic" and that there are noticeable improvements.

It's difficult to appreciate the variation between current-gen and next-gen in TV commercials or a browser window, but up close and personal, the difference is drastic," he said. "Whereas the current-gen versions look muddy with blotchy textures, characters, weapon models, and environments are presented in vivid detail on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The Call of Duty engine fares surprisingly well on next-gen, but even then Ghosts lacks a lot of the added atmospheric effects and visual panache that makes competing games look so realistic."
