"The Elder Scrolls Online" fans were treated to a huge patch update earlier this week but not without reason. The large patch 01.04 is a combination of all the previous updates made available to the video game.

Patch 01.04 arrived to players in a big 15.9 GB download size. The update was meant to enhance players' gaming experience as it addresses minor glitches and upgrades the overall performance of the title.

For those who wondered why the update arrived in a colossal size, Zenimax Online Studios clarified the reason on "The Elder Scrolls Online" Twitter account.

"Today's PS4 patch size is 15.9GB because it also includes patches 01.01 - 01.03. Keep an eye on the #ESOU forums for updates," wrote the developers on the social networking site.

However, it seems that not everyone was happy to receive an update of that size. As such, Zenimax assured its followers via Twitter that it will do what it can in the future to avoid giving colossal patch updates.

Addressing user with Twitter handle @DarksidersUriel, the studio promised to do its best not to release accumulated patches in one go.

"We understand that the patch size is frustrating and are working to ensure future #ESOTU PS4 patches are not cumulative," wrote Zenimax.

According to the official patch notes, the latest upgrade is the "first incremental patch" for PS4 console users. It means that players can then expect more updates in the future in addition to this recently released upgrade.

The main fix patch 01.04 intended to address is to stop the "The Elder Scrolls Online" from crashing in the middle of a game as players teleport or remain in Cyrodiil. It also fixed players' inability to access and see campaign information or POIs on the map of Cyrodiil after the player starts a new mission.

In terms of the visuals, the patch also repaired animations in the game that were affecting the way gamers play such as Lyris being unable to walk properly and some grass in the environment flickering.

Gameplay has also been upgraded with the new patch although Zenimax admitted that invisible NPC is still an "ongoing work in progress" and players could still expect to encounter some problems with the NPC.

Other fixes have also been added to weapons, mounts, quests and UIs to improve the game experience.
