Warren Sapp Charged with 3 Domestic Violence Counts for Allegedly Biting, Stepping on Girlfriend Chalyce Moore
Hall of Fame defensive lineman Warren Sapp has been charged with three counts of domestic violence stemming from a Las Vegas incident in April when he allegedly bit and stomped on his girlfriend's head, TMZ reported on Thursday.
According to the police report, Sapp attacked his longtime girlfriend, Chalyce Moore, on April 28 at the M Resort in Las Vegas. The couple had been arguing at the resort pool when Sapp allegedly threw a margarita in her face. Security camera footage shows that he grabbed her by the arm or purse and violently pulled on her so that she lost her balance.
Moore told police the argument continued once they left the resort in a car. She said that she got sick of arguing with him and told him to get out of the car. He allegedly responded by biting her middle finger.
Along the ride home to Moore's condominium, Sapp got out of the car and requested a ride from another driver who refused, according to TMZ.
The couple eventually arrived at Moore's condo where she claims he threw a belt at her, which she threw back at him. Somehow she ended up on the floor during the altercation where she accuses Sapp of stepping on her face while wearing size 15 white Jordan sandals.
Las Vegas police told TMZ they have security video from the M Resort that backs up her story.
Moore claims to have sustained multiple injuries, including a bruised lower lip, abrasions and bruises on her legs, shoulders, and a checkerboard imprint bruise on one temple from Sapp's sandal.
Moore also told investigators she may have suffered a concussion because she had a headache, stiff neck and was vomiting following the incident.
If Sapp is convicted of the three counts of battery constituting domestic violence, he faces up to 18 months in prison.
He is scheduled to appear in court on July 23.
The domestic violence accusation is not the first against Sapp. The former football player was arrested Feb. 2 in Phoenix for soliciting and assaulting a prostitute during Super Bowl weekend. He pleaded guilty to both charges, according to Fox News. Authorities dropped the solicitation charge when he completed a diversion program.
The NFL Network immediately fired Sapp as their on-air analyst following the February arrest.
The troubled former defensive lineman was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. Sapp played in the NFL from 1995 to 2007 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Oakland Raiders.
