Freeland, PA Man Arrested Just 45 Minutes After Taunting Police on Facebook; Lured in By Pretty Woman and a Cigarette
They say criminals always return to the scene of the crime, but one criminal from Pennsylvania made a more modern and even stupider mistake by returning to social media.
On Jan. 20, the Freeland Police Department put a picture of Anthony James Lescowitch, a wanted fugitive, on their Facebook page.
"***WANTED*** Anthony James Lescowitch DOB 06/23/1978 by Freeland Police in for Aggravated Assault and numerous other charges, anyone knowing the suspects where abouts is asked to call police..." the post said.
Minutes later, Lescowitch shared the post on Facebook with his account and added some taunting words directed at police officers, Times Leader reports. In response, an undercover officer messaged Lescowitch and lured him to the police under the pretense of being a pretty woman.
The two chatted for half an hour, but Lescowitch still refused to get a drink with the undercover officer.
"The least you can do is come out and have a cigarette with me," the undercover officer said, to which Lescowitch agreed.
Freeland Police immediately arrested Lescowitch when he arrived at the scheduled location for his cigarette date.
Next, the Freeland Police Department happily updated their Facebook status.
"CAPTURED!!!!!! SHARES OUR STATUS ON FACEBOOK ABOUT HIMSELF, CAPTURED 45 MINUTES LATER," the police department said via Facebook.
Now, news of Lescowitch's amateur mistake has made its way to Europe.
"Germany is also laughing about him," Bernd K. R. Dorfmüller said on Freeland Police Department's Facebook page.
"lol from Norway, this is in every newspaper in europe now," Torkel Halvorsen added.
According to the Associated Press, Lescowitch stayed at the Luzerne County Jail on Tuesday rather than paying $25,000 bail. He will attend his preliminary hearing on Jan. 29. Lescowitch is facing aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct charges after an incident that took place on July 14 of last year. Lescowitch was also wanted by Luzerne County Probation.
