“Guardians of the Galaxy 2” was immediately slated for a May 5, 2017 release date even before the franchise’s first film premiered on the big screen. It turned out to be a good call for Marvel Studios, especially after the movie grossed a whopping $774.1 million in the global box office, as confirmed by Box Office Mojo.

Director James Gunn – who had recently won an award for Best Director at the 41st Annual Saturn Awards, which was held in Burbank – had previously revealed to Collider that “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” will be a “more emotional” film since it will be delving into Star-Lord’s father. He also took to Twitter to confirm the film's official title.

“Yes, the official title for the @Guardians sequel is ‘GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2,’” Gunn wrote.

Sadly, not much has been revealed regarding the upcoming sequel’s plot, but someone from Marvel did slip out what the film’s official title is going to be, even before Gunn posted on social media. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios may have accidentally revealed to Collider the sequel’s official title when he was giving out the film’s shooting schedule.

“We start shooting ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2’ in February to March 2016,” Feige said when he appeared at the press conference that was held for “Ant-Man.”

It must be noted, though, if the “Volume 2” was going to be used, it is highly likely that it will be shortened to “Vol. 2” instead of having the entire word spelled out. Regardless, this new title will be an enjoyable twist to the film, considering that the popular mix tape that was heavily featured in the first film was entitled, “Peter Quill’s Awesome Mix Vol. 1.”

“Kevin Feige recently let the title slip while doing ‘Ant-Man’ press, which I am really happy about because God knows I have let more than one thing slip accidentally while chattering away on this FB page,” Gunn continued on his Facebook page.

Apparently, several fans were able to take a wild guess on the film’s title and got it right. “Hats off to some intrepid fans who figured out the title a couple of days after I posted the cover page,” Gunn added. “More than one person guessed ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ I wanted so badly to give you props at the time, but I knew I had to wait… for Kevin to mess up. Haha.”

One other thing that Feige revealed to the press was that there were going to "very surprising additions to the movie." Sadly, he refused to cave in to temptation and reveal any more details about this tidbit. "If I were to tell you now, you would go, 'What?!'," he told io9. "But, when you see the movie, I hope it is just as surprising as 'Guardians 1' was the first time around."
