'Star Wars Battlefront' 'Closed' Alpha Gameplay Video Footage Leaks -- Or Is This 'Battlefield: Star Wars?' [Watch]
On Thursday, the closed alpha of the highly anticipated PS4, Xbox One, and PC game 'Star Wars Battlefront' went live for PC. But in the age of Twitch, screen-recording software abounds -- and it didn't take too long for multiple videos of the alpha's in-game gameplay footage to leak.
Battlefield: Star Wars?
At first blush, the most viewed leaked video on Daily Motion (via Digg: Video) might have you worried about DICE's promise -- that Battlefront wouldn't simply become another Battlefield game with a Star Wars skin.

As DICE general manager Patrick Bach assured The Guardian at E3, "We know the core audience of a game like this is different to the Battlefield audience. There's a crossover, but Star Wars fans expect a Star Wars game, not a Battlefield game."
And how!
In "Alpha Gameplay Leaked #2" the action takes place in a familiar setting, Tattooine, but it sure does look a lot like a Battlefield game. It's Admiral Ackbar's voice over spurring you to action, as you blast storm troopers that -- and this is true to Star Wars -- practically line up to walk into your laser fire.
But you'd be forgiven for mistaking the player's gun for a slightly future-ized M16 from any of the dozens of Battlefield franchise games.
Not So Fast
Much more encouraging is the game footage clip from Hoth.

After all, it's the Walker Assault, that perennial old security blanket of Star Wars games. And it looks incredible.
On top of that, the player briefly gets inside a DF. 9 laser cannon and takes it for a spin -- a reminder of great times playing Battlefront: 2. But while it may just be the lack of vehicle use in this alpha release, it's just difficult to see past how DICE heavily borrowed from Battlefield game mechanics and first-person interfaces from those games.
Nonetheless, players would probably take a next-gen Battlefront game heavily influenced by Battlefield -- or Super Smash Bros. for that matter -- than no new Battlefront game at all. I, for one, am pumped for November.
